rol a top - finish - question ?

Bon jour,
Pardon moi pour mon francais !

J'ai achet un slot rol a top et mentainent je lui restore (restoration)

mon question est: quand je fair du polish du metal le metal ne pas comme le miroir:

1. est que le original rol-a-top est avec du metal comme miroir (comme les photos)
2. combine ca possible pour fair le metal come miroir - electro-plate - polish special ?

now english - doe's any one can help - i want the metal parts of my rol-a-top become shining metal like in the photos - what ever i do they don't shine - can some one tell if originally it should shine - or how can it get it shine - special polish - or electro-plate it ?

hi,
in the restoring of antic slots most parts are polished by professionals you give your parts to be polished and wait for them to come back or you investe in polishing tools. Here is an interesting link that shows a good restoring.

I knew i'm at the right place.

I understnad the process - instead of sand cleaning i used paint remover.
the polish machine is common but the materials used for polish I do not recognize (the cotton wheel i recognize but the blue material etc. i have no idea).

I found mine at Tel Aviv flea market on the floor and paid about 1000 euro. It is in good shape and working fine. Watling Bird-of-Paradise - french franc machine. Those machine are very rare in Israel and mine might be the only one around.

I thank you very much Bernie - i almost electro-plated the parts and this polish process was new to me. I will try to find someone who knows how to polish metal here.

hi,
the only part that can be electro -plated and if it can be separated from the machine is the horn of abondunce which is in copper but that part is useally polished by hand. Enjoy your machine and as you say you might be the only person in Israel to have one. Shalom and nice pessah and not to much matzot to be contipated

I think in original condition the machine is not plated, just painted. The spaces not painted are only polished, you can make them more shiny to rub with a cotton and a polish/cleaner, used usually to clean silver things like spoons, knives etc. AND YOUR ARMS !!!
